Wednesday May 12, 2021
For this episode, meet the ‘recovery man ‘ Mish. Mish is one of our avid weekly listeners, all the way from South Africa! And we’re so excited to share his story with you.
Mish was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019. Unfortunately, after his surgery, his penis stopped being mesmerising. So he decided to look for resources on the internet. That’s where he found Victoria Cullen (A Touchy Subject) and then our Dr. Jo and finally, The Penis Project.
Listen as he shares his very candid story which includes; penis pills, using a Vacurect, getting intimate once again with his wife, and a lot more stories we’re sure you can relate to.
Mish really took charge of his health and we hope that this would inspire you, too.

32. Facing the Tiger. Meet “’Professor Suzanne Chambers”, Psychologist & Author
Wednesday May 05, 2021
Wednesday May 05, 2021
Professor Suzanne Chambers is a nurse, onco-psychologist, author, and so much more.
------
For this episode, we talk with Suzanne Chambers, the author of the amazing, must-read ‘’Facing the Tiger’.
Suzanne talks about how and why she wrote her book, the strength of mindfulness and why it’s not a policy for everyone, Masculinity in Chronic Disease Inventory (MCDI), individuality, and a lot more topics geared to helping patients with their journey.
We particularly love her thoughts on seeking a second opinion and why you should feel confident in doing so.
Have a listen and enjoy the conversation with the woman who started the advocacy for cancer patient support. She’ll share some tips to use (which you may know but might have forgotten) when anxiety creeps in.
This episode also reminds us of the motto that ‘everyone is different and unique’.

31. “Andy” – Black holes, a love story, heartbreak and calibrating.
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
For this episode, we will take you down memory lane, with Andy.
Andy will be talking about the love of his life, the pain he has had to endure and still feels to this day, the pain of panic, and the rush of bikes. So for the blokes who know the sweet taste of adrenaline when riding bikes, you will enjoy this!
Be ready to listen, to be sad, to laugh, to be jealous (because he could just have the best job in the world!) and get some life lessons. Because yes, no matter how good your continence is, you still have to continue doing your pelvic floor exercises… or else, get ready to be dripp-y.
Have a listen and we hope the lessons from Andy’s journey will give inspiration, joy, and the empowerment to live and embrace life - every minute of it.
Andy wouldn’t change it for quids!
Enjoy!

30. Teamwork in Prostate Cancer. Meet “Punch & Judy”
Wednesday Apr 21, 2021
Wednesday Apr 21, 2021
Welcome to Episode 30 of the Penis Project podcast! And our very first episode with a couple talking about their experience - TWOGETHER!
Meet Judy and Punch who both were very willing to share their story.
Punch was diagnosed in 2017 after a routine blood test suggested by his new GP - totally by accident. And through all of this, Judy was with him.
Listen on how they handled their journey together - from diagnosis, to moving to Perth for Punch’s surgery, to post-op procedures and to doing injections as a team. Yep, Punch is an injection user! If you’re curious about his experience and what happens when you prick the wrong side of the penis, this episode is for you.
Plus, Dr. Jo will also explain what’s the preferred or ideal position (no puns here) when doing pelvic floor exercises and why mirrors can be of help to do them perfectly. ;)
Key takeaways:
- Judy:
If you have someone to go with you, that's a huge thing - someone to back you up. :)
- Punch:
All males, once you get to 50 (45 if you have family history) - go and get tested.

27. ‘’Paul’’- Prostate Cancer Conqueror & Passionate Swimmer with a Sling!
Wednesday Mar 31, 2021
Wednesday Mar 31, 2021
Meet Paul.
Paul is a 75 year old swimmer and a survivor of Prostate Cancer.
Instead of opting for the usual prostatectomy, he opted for Robotic Surgery.
You see, Paul is an avid swimmer and having the usual operation to remove his prostate was not ideal – so after discussion and great decisiveness, he opted for the Robotic surgery.
When we asked Paul about the pain after the surgery, he said ‘Very, very little’.
The pain was very little that he was able to go back to swimming activities even just after 4 weeks. He just had to go back to the swimming pool as soon as possible (what an amazing drive!).
However, the major problem that Paul encountered was that he was leaking heavily – leaking at almost a litre and a half a day. He was using almost 7 pads per day. Even disposing the pads was quite an issue. He had to actually duck into women’s toilets to dispose of them!
Here’s an episode where we discussed the initiative of providing Bins for Blokes (Episode 10) >>
And when he swims, he has to use tissue papers to hide the leakage. (Sorry, we forgot to ask what brand of tissue he used!)
Then he met with Dr. Jo who gave him a lot of confidence to handle the incontinence.
To also help with the leakage, he opted for the Advanced Sling Operation. You can actually find out more about this in Episode 19 where Mr. Positive Penis talked about it.
Please click here to listen to Episode 19 >>
The operation helped him address the leakage but had to endure almost 6 weeks of pain from the operation site.
Here are some amazing takeaways from this episode:
- Apples are OUT, Oranges are IN for constipation.
- Buy good quality tissues!
- Drinking more than 4 glasses of champagne causes leakage.
- Keep taking PSA tests even after surgery and encourage the ones around you to take the test, too.
- Do not procrastinate, do your exercises.
- Clubs and joining support groups are very important.
And lastly,
Know that you can do whatever you like, but it’s gonna come from within and it should be something that you really like. Passion is the key to a long happy life.
